Controlling Microsoft 365 Storage Growth with Azure-Based Archiving

Microsoft 365 data is growing quickly. For higher education institutions, that growth can lead to significant storage overage costs. It also creates new challenges around protection, retention, security, accessibility, and recovery.

In this session, Patrick and Randy will share how Indiana University evaluated its Microsoft 365 storage and data lifecycle strategy. They will explain and demonstrate how the university used Azure-based archiving to enable protection and immediately reduce storage costs, with a projected one-year ROI of 110%. The approach preserved access to institutional data and avoided broad, manual deletion efforts.

They will discuss the technical and operational considerations behind the strategy. Topics will include identifying inactive data, setting policy-based archive rules, meeting retention requirements, and maintaining full recoverability.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Assess the cost and operational impact of Microsoft 365 data growth
  • Use a single, SaaS platform to manage on-premise, cloud-hosted and SaaS data
  • Reduce storage overage costs without limiting access to data
  • Plan for architecture, security, scale, and retention requirements
  • Prepare backup and archived data for future AI and analytics use cases
  • See the CrashPlan backup and archiving workflow in a live demonstration
